Approved Integration EHR Vendors

CORHIO/CO-REC EHR Approved Integration Vendor Process

After receiving federal grants for both Health Information Exchange and a Regional Extension Center in February 2010, CORHIO made the commitment to proactively engage EHR vendors to better equip physicians in Colorado to make informed decisions about HIT products that would enable them to achieve meaningful use. While the federal government implemented changes to the EHR certification process to address Stage 1 Meaningful Use, CORHIO and CO-REC challenged EHR vendors to showcase their ability to provide highly integrated and interoperable products to pave the way for future Meaningful Use stages that will require systems to exchange information with one another through either an HIE or other exchange/interface methods.

There are five core components to the CORHIO/CO-REC review process of each product and organization.

Respondents were required to articulate their HL7 exchange capabilities through the ability to send and receive standard message types including:

  • Lab orders and results
  • Radiology orders and results
  • Transcription Reports
  • Admit, Discharge, Transfer (ADT) Reports
  • Create and send a Continuity of Care Document (CCD)
  • Health Information Exchange (HIE) connections

In additional to interoperability requirements, CORHIO and CO-REC require that EHR vendors demonstrate a commitment to advancing EHR adoption to all physicians in Colorado, not limited to the providers eligible for Regional Extension Center (REC) services. As the stages of Meaningful Use progress over the next four years, CORHIO is committed to having 85% of all Colorado providers meaningfully using an EHR. Vendors were selected based on a set of 10 technical integration points, interface availability and pricing, overall system pricing and current ONC-ATCB certification. Vendors with confirmed dates for their certification reviews were included. Each system offers both an EHR and practice management (PM) product if practices are interested in implementing an integrated EHR and PM system.

It is our goal to add to this list as vendors possess both the integration and interoperability requirements, as well as obtain certification from ONC for their products.

Specific vendor information will not be shared with providers until they have been "qualified" through CORHIO or CO-REC. This qualification process is a safe-guard to minimize release of confidential vendor information that was shared during this application process. Vendor information will be shared with practices and providers through face-to-face interactions with the Regional Extension Center and its partner organizations which include:

  • Colorado Foundation for Medical Care
  • Colorado Community Managed Care Network
  • Colorado Rural Health Center and ClinicNet
  • Health TeamWorks
  • Physician Health Partners
  • Quality Health Network

While the vendors and products listed as Approved Integration Vendors have agreed to key interoperability and pricing transparency, the REC is committed to working with any eligible primary care practice regardless of the EHR product currently in place or implemented. The CO-REC Program serves 2,500 Primary Care Providers in practices with 10 or fewer total providers, or whose patient population is largely made up of underserved populations.

CO-REC developed an online web portal that will provide tools and resources to assist providers in determining if they're ready to move forward with an EHR. The portal included EHR selection and implementation tools, privacy & security assessments as well as Meaningful Use tools. Click here to access the Path to Meaningful Use portal.
